Amended Wagering Law

This amendment of a 1950s law required commercial gamblers to purchase a special tax stamp and pay an excise tax of two per cent on gross wagers.

Wagering Enforcement

The Secretary of the Treasury transfers responsibility for enforcing the Wagering Law from the Internal Revenue Service to ATF in December of 1974.  However, in January of 1977, the IRS reassumes enforcement responsibilities since this law primarily focuses on taxes.
