Rock Island Man Sentenced to Prison for Firearm Charge

DAVENPORT, Iowa – On Tuesday, May 4, 2021, United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey sentenced Christopher Mateo Perez, age 29, of Rock Island, to 180 months in prison for Felon in Possession of a Firearm announced Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal. Perez was ordered to serve three years of supervised release to follow his prison term as well as pay $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.

In August of 2019 Perez was arrested on an outstanding warrant. A search warrant was conducted on Perez’s residence and officers located a loaded Glock 17 nine-millimeter pistol and various items consistent with drug trafficking. The gun contained 17 rounds of ammunition and had been reported stolen. Perez admitted the firearm belonged to him. At the time, Perez knew he was a convicted felon, therefore he was prohibited from possessing firearms.

This matter was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
