La Crosse County Man Charged With Gun and Drug Crimes

Jason Stetzer, 38, Holmen, Wisconsin, is charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and with possessing methamphetamine for distribution. The indictment alleges that on April 17, 2021, Stetzer possessed a .380 handgun and ammunition, a 20-gauge shotgun and ammunition, and methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

If convicted, Stetzer faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on the gun charge and 20 years on the drug charge. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the La Crosse and Holmen Police Departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Duchemin is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
