Investigation Into Explosion Finds No Foul Play

The investigation into an explosion at Platinum Printing, located at 4940 West Ray Road #1, in Chandler last week has found no foul play.

On August 26, 2021, at 9:23 am, a fuel-air mixture explosion occurred at the building, seriously injuring four individuals. Three of the four, identified as twenty-nine-year-old Dillion Ryan, thirty-nine-year-old Andrew Ryan, and twenty-nine-year-old Parker Milldebrandt, were present inside Platinum Printing at the time of the explosion. The fourth individual, identified as fifty-eight-year-old Glenn Jordan, was inside the Eyeglass Repair business to the west. All four are still receiving medical care at a local hospital.

Multiple agencies, including the Chandler Police Department and Chandler Fire Department, ATF's National Response Team, and crews from Southwest Gas, have probed the explosion scene to determine the cause.

"The findings by the ATF National Response Team and investigative partners determined that the explosion was caused by an unintentional natural gas leak ignited by an independent ignition source," stated ATF Special Agent in Charge Gabriel Pinon.

The cause was determined to be accidental and not criminal. Upon completion of the investigation, the building was turned over to the property management company, UMC Real Estate Services.

The Chandler Police Department would like to thank ATF, Tempe Police, Chandler Fire, Phoenix Fire, Mesa Fire, and Gilbert Fire, along with Southwest Gas, for their assistance during this investigation.

Any questions regarding natural gas services, contact Southwest Gas Corporate Communications Manager Sean Corbett at 702-960-6567.
