ATF Launches “The Faces of Gun Violence” Online

WASHINGTON – Last week, ATF launched a new “The Faces of Gun Violence” webpage, complementing the existing exhibit and kiosk that was dedicated by Attorney General Merrick Garland during ATF’s inaugural Gun Violence Survivors’ Summit in April 2024. The webpage, exhibit, and kiosk help to honor and remember those who have lost their lives to gun violence in school shootings, community shootings, domestic violence, suicide, and other shooting events.

“Every single day in the United States, more than 100 people lose their lives through firearms violence. And many more are injured, often very seriously. At ATF, we work every single day to seek justice for the victims and survivors of gun crime,” said ATF Director Steven Dettelbach. “ATF knows firsthand that this violence is not about statistics—it is about human beings. It is about the lives of victims and survivors and the lives of those they touch. It is about empty seats at holiday meals and birthdays never celebrated. Those thoughts drive the brave people at ATF every day. That is what The Faces of Gun Violence exhibit and kiosk are all about.”

“The Faces of Gun Violence” exhibit is an installation in the center of ATF headquarters, with 118 photographs submitted by family members who lost their loved ones to gun violence. Next to the photographs is a kiosk with the same photographs and short biographies about each victim. The newly launched webpage provides information on the exhibit and kiosk, features a statement from Director Dettelbach, and has information on how family members can submit photographs.

A new set of 118 photographs will be added to the exhibit at ATF’s Second Annual Gun Violence Survivors’ Summit, on April 8, 2025. ATF encourages family members to submit photographs of loved ones killed by gun violence to be considered for inclusion in “The Faces of Gun Violence” exhibit and kiosk.
