Action:
Paperwork Reduction Act Notice on Extension of an Information Collection
Purpose:
The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. This proposed information collection (form) was initially published in the Federal Register April 11, 2014 (79 FR 20235), allowing for a 60 day comment period. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, and with the initial public comment period completed, this notice provides an additional 30 days for public comment on the collection as the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) considers the agency’s information collection request and the comments received during the initial public comment period. The proposed information collection pertains to the form that must be completed and submitted to ATF by certain categories of persons that are prohibited from possessing firearms when applying for their restoration of firearms privileges. The application form is the basis for ATF investigating the merits of an applicant to have his/her rights restored.
