Identification Markings Placed on Firearms (OMB Number 1140–0050)

Action:
Paperwork Reduction Act on Extension of an Existing Information Collection
Purpose:
The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. The proposed information collection was previously published in the Federal Register on Feb. 26, 2015. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, this notice provides an additional 30 days for public comment on the proposed extension of an existing collection. The proposed information collection relates to the requirement that each licensed firearms manufacturer or licensed firearms importer must legibly identify each firearm by engraving, casting, stamping (impressing), or otherwise conspicuously placing on the frame or receiver an individual serial number. ATF also requires the minimum height and depth requirements for identification markings placed on firearms.
