The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. The proposed information collection was previously published in the Federal Register on January 22, 2015. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, this notice provides an additional 30 days for public comment on the proposed extension of an existing collection. The nonimmigrant alien information will be used to determine if a nonimmigrant alien is eligible to purchase, obtain, possess, or import a firearm. Nonimmigrant aliens must maintain the documents while in possession of firearms or ammunition in the United States for verification purposes.
