Report of Theft or Loss of Explosives (OMB Number 1140–0026)

Action:
Paperwork Reduction Act Extension of an Information Collection
Purpose:
The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 requires agencies to publish proposed information collections in the Federal Register for public comment before an agency can use the process (generally a form) to collect information from the public. This proposed information collection (form) was initially published in the Federal Register April 15, 2014 (79 FR 21284), allowing for a 60 day comment period. As required by the Paperwork Reduction Act, and with the initial public comment period completed, this notice provides an additional 30 days for public comment on the collection as the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) considers the agency’s information collection request and the comments received during the initial public comment period. The proposed information collection pertains to a form that Federal Explosives Licensees are required by statute to provide to ATF within 24 hours of the discovery of a loss or theft of explosives. This form contains the minimum information necessary for ATF to initiate criminal investigations related to firearm or explosives thefts.
