Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Ernest Walker was part of a contingent of Prohibition Agents working the U.S. - Mexican border looking for liquor smugglers.  The agents intercepted a group of Mexicans trying to smuggle a truck loaded with liquor across the border.  During the ensuing gunfight, Agent Walker was seriously wounded and although quickly hospitalized, he died three days later.  Although several suspects were taken into custody, no one was ever charged with the murder of Agent Walker.

Background

Agent Walker joined the Prohibition Unit on February 11, 1920, with an annual salary of $1,400.  He started his Government service in 1917, as a tax collector for the IRS.

Agent Walker was born in Ft. Worth, TX.  He was survived by his wife.
