Circumstances of Death

On April 2, 1935, Special Agent Robert Nickerson had been participating in a series of still raids in Oxford, NY.  He was assigned to guard one location while other agents continued to another nearby still. The agents had planned to return and destroy the still.  During his watch, Agent Nickerson contracted acute streptococci laryngitis due to exposure. Agent Nickerson died from pneumonia nine days later.

Background

Agent Nickerson joined the Bureau of Prohibition on June 22, 1931 and was assigned to the Syracuse, NY, field office. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1908 - 1912 and again from 1918 - 1919, during World War I.

Agent Nickerson was born in Binghamton, NY.  He was survived by his wife, Blanche.
