Craig W. Saier was selected as the Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Tampa Field Division in November 2020. As the Special Agent in Charge, Mr. Saier has law enforcement executive management responsibility and provides direction for all ATF operations occurring in 58 counties spanning Southwest and Central Florida, as well as the entire Florida Panhandle. Mr. Saier holds those under his leadership accountable to accomplish the ATF mission in a professional and safe manner. Community engagement is very important to Mr. Saier. He encourages community members to engage with ATF in areas where we can make communities safer and bring those committing crimes to justice.
ATF is a unique law enforcement agency in the United States Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, the illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, and the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products. Protecting the public is central to ATF’s mission. The men and women of ATF are diverse and perform the dual responsibilities of enforcing Federal criminal laws and regulating the firearms and explosives industries to protect against crime, violence, and other threats to public safety. Prior to his selection for this position, Mr. Saier served as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the Dallas Field Division, assigned to El Paso, Texas. Mr. Saier’s prior leadership posts include serving as ATF’s Country Attaché to Mexico at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico. As the ATF Attaché, Mr. Saier led all four ATF offices in Mexico, supporting the U.S. diplomatic mission and coordinating U.S. bilateral law enforcement efforts to combat illegal firearms trafficking. Prior to his assignment to Mexico, Mr. Saier was the Division Chief of the Resource Management Branch in ATF Headquarters in Washington, DC. In his first supervisory position in 2012, Mr. Saier was the Group Supervisor of the Jacksonville, Florida, Group I Field Office. He began his career with ATF in 2000 as a Special Agent in the Pensacola, Florida, Field Office.
A seasoned federal law enforcement officer, Mr. Saier has more than 26 years of federal law enforcement experience, Mr. Saier was an Immigration Inspector with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in El Paso, Texas prior to joining ATF.
Mr. Saier is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a graduate of the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, California.
Mr. Saier holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies from the University of West Florida and a Master’s Degree in Security and Safety Leadership from The George Washington University.
