K-9 Murphy graduated from ATF‘s Search Enhanced Evidence K-9 (S.E.E.K.) program where he learned to detect all military commercial and homemade explosives. Murphy can search for explosives, firearms and firearms evidence both on and off leash. Murphy's off leash search ability allows his handler to send Murphy to specified targets from a distance. Once at the target/area, his handler can use hand and whistle signals to direct Murphy to search. This unique ability provides his handler the option to search for explosives from a distance, providing additional safety for the handler. Murphy assists local, state and federal law-enforcement agencies with locating and recovering explosives, firearms and firearms evidence.
Murphy graduated from the National Canine Training Center with his brother, Calvin, who is currently assigned to the Dallas Field Division and his sister, Oakley, who is currently assigned to the Atlanta Field Division. His favorite pastime is eating ice cubes (if ice cubes are taken out of the freezer, the user must pay a tax to Murphy) and cuddling with his human sisters.
